~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MASTER CLASS ONE: 9am to 5pm
Background:
In the past, we have been giving free personal conselling to many.
The number has increased ever since there has been much publicity
about the industry picking up.
There are 2 groups of people we are reaching out to:
A) Graduates from CG related courses
We have come across many who were quite lost when it comes to
preparing their showreel and portfolio. Many showreel and portfolio
does not speak well for the artists. It does not demonstrate that the
artist has the capabiliy to take on a specific role in the
production. A lack of interaction between the artists and the
industry is one of the cause of it. Hence no matter how many
companies we have introduced to them, they still failed the
interview.
B) A and O levels students and those who decided to enter the
industry
With the increased in publicity, many have been taking up both public
and private courses without a a clear idea of the industry and what
is expected out of them. First, they need to have a clear idea what
is the role they want to play and what kind of skillset is required
to take on the job. Only then they will know how to choose the right
program to assist them in preparing oneself for the specific job role
they want to play in a production. Learning with an objective in mind
is important.
" How to prepare yourself for the CG industry "
Introducing SAC and what we do.
Overall view of our industry and current development
Right Attitude and Mentality before one go into the industry.
Detail coverage on :
Understanding on the responsibilities of a specific role in the
pipeline.
What is skillset required and what are the things employers are
looking for.
How to self train for that role.
How to prepare one's showreel.
The roles include:
Modeler, Texture Artist, 3d Animator, Lightings Artists, Visual
Effects Artist, Technical Director
We will also talk a bit on how 2d people can prepare themselves to
fit into the production.
What are the opportunities available for them? How they can apply
their skill to various pre-production positions.
My apologies on not notifying everyone in advance, but this was a very last minute thing - I only found out a few days before the event and there was as limit of 100 people. When I signed up I was forcefully slotted in as I said I mentioned some names in the production so David Kwok closed one eye.
They're disbanding for now until they get a new project or have demand for more episodes. More news: check out today's papers... LIFE section in a crappy corner... Some storyboarding contest by Animax.
I regret not going for the Ed Hooks seminar and the one by Pixar... damn waste... The Bottle Top Bill wasn't really much... I was dying in my seat actually... Was actually thinking of shopping at some point of the presentation... :P
And how come my Blog interface is in CHINESE HUH??? HUH???? HOW COME???!!!! WHY YOU DO THIS TO ME!!!! WHAAAI???!!!!!
Hey all, this is a suggestion which i hope we could all do if u all are ONZ!!:
i was thinking if we could gather a group of 6-8 ppl, we can cosplay as that CAT BUS from Totoro! Cos.. i was hoping to do something larger scale and since we dun really see it being done b4... and we could also have someone going as Totoro himself(aaron? lolz...)... which i also havent seen b4, cept' for some anorexic-looking pandas.......
so on boh? BOBAKE!!!
*screams~
geez.. this guy really got alot of patience...
For those of you who are still interested in the happenings of our local animation industry - beyond the stuff about Lucas Arts and Koei setting up here - as of March 20, on the same day of the ACM thing, Southern Star Singapore has made a press release of their soon-to-be fully completed 26 episode animation series called, "Bottle Top Bill" which will air in the UK and US. It is an Australian property by creator Cameron Chittock and they have allowed local talents full control of the production (in terms of animation). This is a mixed media production comprising of traditional stop-motion animation and 3D animation. The target audience is mainly children - as you might have realised from the designs and such. Still it is worth noting that this is perhaps the first 26 episode animation series to be completed here in Singapore, while others have their plugs pulled out - such as Simeon Rex and those of our... well... internship...
While at the event, I bumped into a fellow classmate, Chelsea. She has been in Southern Star for 15 months as the model and prop maker. Judging from our internship experience I've got a feeling this was like some dream job for her. The staff of 50 consists mainly of NYP students *feels obsolete* inclusive of 1 TP Chelsea. Its Line Producer is David Kwok, President of the Singapore Animators' Connection - an entity that supports local 3D artists... 3D artists... byeetch...
Personally I did not gain much out of attending the press release. I skipped the afternoon technical talk as I was falling asleep already. The seats were fully booked and I got in by mentioning a few... prominent names. It was free entry anyway. I'll try to share more local industry news whenever I can. I would advise everyone to keep in touch with the papers for more job opportunities.
I would like to remind you fellow budding animators that there is great potential here and dreams can be realised. We just have to keep our eyes open for such opportunities. There should be a second part to this event, I'll keep you guys and gals informed. I'm still trying to gather as much contacts and info as I can. Cheers.
